It's Saturday night, TV is terrible and I have no plans on going out so I decided to watch Oprah's Soul Series with Dr. Wayne Dyer. In part two, I found his explanation of the ego quite inspiring. Like Oprah, I loved his acronym for the ego - "edging God out."
Dr. Dyer goes on to explain that the ego is nothing more than a set of ideas we carry around. And according to him, the ego has six components:
I am what I have.
I am what I do.
I am what other people think of me.
I am separate from everybody else.
I am separate from what is missing from my life.
I am separate from God.
For me, this helps in my understanding of what exactly the ego is.

From a fellow group member:
All the Pride festivities made me think about the collective ego in the LGBT community. In Chapter 4 (pp.125-127) Eckhart Tolle discusses the collective ego and notes that a collective ego manifests the same characteristics as the personal ego, but a collective ego is usually more unconscious than the individuals that make up the ego. So as we celebrate Pride together do we strengthen the collective ego in the LGBT community and do we all become more unconscious?
A friend gave me a card with this written inside, I thought I would pass it on.
100 WORD FORMULA FOR ALL OF LIFE
Hope is the doorway to belief
Belief is the doorway to knowing
Knowing is the doorway to creation
And Creation is the doorway to experience
Experience is the doorway to becoming
Becoming is the activity of all Life
and the only function of God
What you hope, you will eventually believe
What you believe you will eventually know
What you know you will eventually create
What you creat you will eventually experience
What you experience you will eventually express
What you express you will eventually become
This is the formular for all of life.
